Parents are their children’s first and most influential teachers. What parents do to help their children learn is more important to academic success than how well-off the family is.
"What Works," 1986
Parents are encouraged to participate in the education of their children. Without the cooperation and partnership between parents and school staff, we cannot effectively help a student reach his or her full potential. The major role of parents is to continually show your child that you are interested and supportive of how they are doing in school. By working together, parents and teachers can help the student learn behaviors that will increase changes of success. In order to ensure your child’s success in school, we ask parents to do the following:
- Provide a nutritious breakfast and adequate rest for your child.
- Provide a healthy snack (fruits, vegetables, granola bar, yogurt etc.)
- Dress your child appropriately for school activities.
- Have your child arrive at school on time.
- Make sure that your child is picked-up promptly after school.
- Follow parking lot safety procedures as directed by staff members when dropping off/picking up your child.
- Check your child’s folder/backpack daily for school communication and homework.
- Help your child establish good study habits by providing appropriate time and place for completing homework.
- Check your child’s homework for accuracy and completion.
- Leave all items not school related at home (toys, games, cards, makeup, iPods etc).
- Praise/reward your child for a job well done.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. When we all work together, our school becomes an exciting and warm place where learning can happen.
